Considering Selling 1988 240 wagon 200 1988

I have a 1988 240 DL wagon that I probably need to sell. I haven't driven it for ages, altho' I did have some routine maintenance parts replaced (ages ago). I haven't even tried to start it for ages ... and am certain it would need a new battery to accomplish that.
Addl notes on condition: No dents to speak of and no rust that I'm aware of; body is sound. Needs paint job. Windshield is cracked - needs to be replaced (can't be repaired). A/C hasn't been converted and needs to be recharged (or converted!) Odometer quit working - at I believe about 250K. It needs suspension work. Seems to me I had timing belt replaced at least twice. I bought car about mid 1990's (originally a So.Cal car) I didn't put a lot of miles on it beyond that.
Basically- it hasn't been driven since I got my 1993 (3 years ago) and driven only as 'back up' from about 2007 to 2014. (sigh)
I have no idea what price to put on this. I believe car will run again but clearly needs a new owner with mechanical ability. I'd hate to see it end up as a parts car but ....
Would appreciate thoughts of those more knowledgeable than I!

You are in AZ-state?

There exist R12 compatible systems, though you or the next owner may need to merely replace seals, verify the compressor can spin / clutch and bearing are good, and replace the A/C system drier.

R12 products exist that mimic R12 like Duracool.

Hello Kitty!

Just a quick sidebar question. Don't mean to hijack this thread...:)

You seem to be pretty technically astute. What is your opinion of the present day security on Facebook? I am not on Facebook now, but considering joining to connect with someone and also to potentially sell my 95 855 GLT as I did not realize there was a Volvo group there.

As always, thanks for any insight!

Jim

Hiya Mr. Walker!

And a Sure Happy it's Thursday all day long to you!

I dunno how technically astute I am. More of a Luddite here with a box full of vacuum tubes ...

Modern object-oriented coding is beyond me. Training hordes of hamsters to hoard more RWD Volvos from the wrecker? Setting up what remains of some Lionel 027 model railroad layout bits?

Thank you though for the kind compliment. Thank you.

Facebook security?

The asynchronous JavaScript framework that loads in your client (browser), while a complex component schema seems secure to me. All files uploaded by others are scanned or munched on, like media file (jpeg and video) and recast into re-compressed jpeg and html5 video. Users can post links to other websites that occasionally facebook refuses. So, in that case installing uBlock Origin into the current Mozilla FireFox Quantum (64 or 32-bit for your win or Unix / Linux box) or a Chromium browser. (Google is your friend and not evil?)

No need for the Adobe flash on your browser ever again, lest you need the Volvo Tips site (why not leave the info as clear PDF files? monetization as the ads update?).

It is okay for me to use in Mozilla FireFox Quantum current version, third party cookies off, and clear all history (Ctrl + Shift + Delete manually in most browsers for the clear cache / clear history dialogue) between session or at quit in the preferences. I've had FB accounts since 2011.

Facebook offers a few different login methods, such as redundant credentials, phone number, and such.

I'd futzed too much or recently with the FWD/AWD Volvo facebook forms. The "Volvo 240 fan club" has some 9k or 12k members? I love all the Volvo 240 images and issues and quite some silliness. Though offering advice to "My 240 don't work right (or at all)" becomes trying. So I do less and less of that.

I was writin' some long posts with many links, with always directing users to the brickboard RWD experts consortium with the argument more practiced perspectives, versus one or two, shall help. With links to the FAQ. And pointers to Turbobricks also. For UK / Europa users, I'll pint them to the forums in their language, yet since they write in English, to the UK and US forums. There exist some good forums in Germany and Nordica.

For 850 / S70 / Volvo FWD-AWD groups, seek the groups with the largest member count and most active following. You can post on multiple FB groups the same info until the spammer screener comes up.

Also, you have craigslist to post on for free likewise.

I go there for Volvo stuff anymore or silly hamster videos.

Mark Zuckerberg was here in St. Louis in November 2017 and is offering free technology skills classes and training for St. Louis-area residents so businesses here that don't have employees with such skill sets can gain a web presence. (On facebook, I'll guess?)

Also, use at least the (Win / MacOS) maker antimalware / antivirus / software firewall that can come with the OS or is made by the OS maker. I don't use Avira anymore.

I'm somewhat wary of the Apple iOS and Android mobile platforms. All them apps gyratin' and running down your battery and self-installing. You have to configure your mobile to not allow apps to intrude so much and waste resources like wireless cell time and battery power. Always use the local WiFi when you can, lest you wireless contract is unlimited, I guess. You can use facebook through your mobile as the facebook app.

Sorry to go on so.

Does that halps you?

Happy SUNDAY to you, MacDuff!

At least the SUN has finally been out in New England this weekend. And a little warmer too. Been a cold, dreary winter.

"Modern object-oriented coding is beyond me." Beyond me too! I tried to learn it....:)

I have a recently acquired Win 10 machine. Security seems good. Plus I will maximize the redundant security when logging on to Facebook etc. Most likely I will use just my computer for FB. I don't normally use my cell phone for logging onto a website. Maybe for a little web surfing and that's about it.

Recently it was publicized that Facebook was improving security so what you told me is indeed helpful - Many thanks for the input!!

Best,
J

I suggest putting it in Craigslist for $500 or BO. See if you get any takers. You might get lucky and the car will have a new owner instead of going to the junkyard! Here in Mass. even a beater will bring $300-400 from a boneyard. Offer varies based on market scrap metal price.

I've sold 2 of my old Volvos on Craigslist to actual buyers:
1. Got $750 for my 1990 240 with 300k!! However, it was in better shape than your 88.
2. Got $500 for my 93 850 with a bad transmission.

If you're unwilling/unable to put the time/energy into getting it running -- then it's worth next to nothing in my opinion. I'm amazed at the number of non-running old Volvos that trade hands for $50-$100 or "just get it out of the driveway".
