So tell me... What does it say about the "Brickboard Community" that when I post a thread about selling my car, the only comments I get are insults?
I used to think people were nice, friendly and helpful on this forum. Not anymore.
Please, if you want to insult me then be a man and try to do it to my face.

I just sold a '92 245, one owner car with 98K on the clock.
it was registered and had a current inspection sticker - it needed a hard line on the steering rack, the vents in front of the wind shield were covered, and the sunroof has silicone sealer around it.
I sold it for the $70 that I was into it. Got it for free, put new plugs in it (they weren't fouled, just badly worn), repaired a broken hood hinge, and charged the buyer $30 for a used car cover.
The new owner fixed the drains and steering, buffed it out and added alloy wheels and drives it every day.
Where did you post? This section is supposed to be for repairs - most of the people here have plenty of old Bricks - I'm down to two now, plus 2 XC70s and a '54 Chevy.

James--Of course you realize you gave the car away and that can be/is an honorable thing--but I know Mr Nabisco's car and I also know the market for 245's in the NY Metro area -- his asking price may be a bit high for a car with various body issues -- but it is not far off the mark. When you factor in the M47 (hard to find stick shift cars here) he will get near his price when the right buyer comes along.
The 1990 244 I recently sold for $1100 (still needing a battery, tires, radio and A/C recharge) has had many inquiries and I was even offered more for it than the asking price but had already taken a deposit - so it'll go to the fellow who left the deposit. -- Dave

I was just trying to save two Bricks from the shredder. Plan A was to spiff them up for a couple of new drivers.
I bought an unused '90 745 for $200 and the very next day an old Oriental couple fro the next neighborhood showed up and asked if I wanted their 245.
I sold the 745 for $200 and the 245 for $70 both cars are now daily drivers.

Hi CB,
More of a John Powers Irish Whisky patron meself.
Makes a great Irish Coffee or Irish Hot Cocoa. I also like Cherry Kirsch liquor, Ogreat (almond), Franjelico (hazel nuts!), and the orange liquor in hot cocoa, with some vanilla.
What Scotch do you like?
A relative loved a fifth of the Scorsby and the Dewar's White Label in a sitting, and then he wants to go out, driving his 1973 164e or 1979 245 DL. I was the return chauffeur sometimes. No real fan of booze anymore, yet despise unending sobriety. To CO-state! Or AK, WA, OR, CA, NV, ME, and MA! Ha-ha! Or Amsetrdam, Nederlands.
Lonely sober holidayze are awful.

My contribution:
"Nothing but insults" is factually incorrect. $2500 for a 26 YO car in that condition is a lot. Regardless of the money spent on things you consider upgrades, I'd take the first $1000 that walked in the door.
I live in VA but know well the ravages of Northeast rust. I have to question the possible market for such a thing. Seems like a good fit for someone who knows and needs a beater. Or perhaps for a first car. It is a tremendous leap of faith unless you have the knowledge found here and as is obvious, your market isn't here.
I hope you find this nice, friendly and helpful.

Hi Bert,
I have an extra driver seat you can have. It needs a new set of the seat cover. It's in MD so let me know. I can bring it to Brooklyn and give you in person.
I noticed that BB members have a lower value when it comes to shopping for another brick. So I am not surprised by sticker shock. They said it over the internet. It's really up to you how you perceive* it.
As always, thank you.
* In San Diego, you say hello when you meet a stranger on the street. In Brooklyn, You are crazy if you did that.

You have to expect that when you post on a public forum, you are going to receive a variety of responses, and some of them you may not like at all. Them's the breaks, as the saying goes.
Your car is nice, but as others have noted, it has some cosmetic issues and will need more work in addition to the extensive work that you have already done to the car. Honestly, I would only pay $3300 for a 240 if it were in pristine condition. You have quite a bit invested in your 240, I understand that, but the reality is that the replacement value, if it were totaled in a collision, would be quite a bit less than your $3300 asking price + the money one would have to put into it to get it all up to snuff.
If I lived closer, I'd maybe go as high as $2500 for that car just because it has had significant mechanical work and some high priced/labor intensive items already replaced. Otherwise, to be really blunt, it's a 26 year old car with 200K miles and a non-enthusiast would probably offer you $500 for it.

Bert, you have been here since 2001 or so. You should know by now that most of us are too poor (or act that way) to spend bucks on automotive upgrades. We all like what you did to the engine, but wouldn't spend that money on our own cars.
Your car is old and there is a bit of rust here and there. It needs paint. The roof rack could use a good buffing to get the black off and get back to the polished chrome. It could have used some nice wheels. It could have used a vinyl driver's seat to match the others and passengers like heated seats also.
There is a lot of non-drive train work to be done. This is not cheap and quite time consuming.
I realize that NYC commands higher prices for old Volvos, but I would rather find a West coast 240 without any rust.
So, don't take the negative critics to harsh, they did help you after all. Some are shocked to see a pristine 245 advertised for $7-10,000.
