'58 p445 Choke 444-544

My fist post here, been a long time lurker and consumer of all the vintage Volvo knowledge.. I'm in the process of sorting out my 445, slowly going through each system addressing issues.

The choke lever/cable is hanging under the dashboard..it's operational, it needs to be properly anchored, and properly attached to the dash control. I'm unable to locate where it was attached originally, anyone have pictures or resource to reference? Thank you

BTW I live in Longmont Colorado..and recall someone older posts lived in Greeley Co. if anyone local has a 445, I would love to visit and see your Duett.

Thank you,
Scott

Thank you for the replies. The p445 has a B18 with dual SU carbs... Here is a picture of the choke lever

The picture helps.

That appears to be the underdash choke linkage bracket from an early 140 with dual HS6 carbs.

We ran into to the same issue and solved it by installing an aftermarket choke cable in the dash and connecting it to a modified bell crank like what you have which was mounted under the hood on the heater box next to the heater fan motor.

So the single choke cable is mounted on the dash and is routed through the firewall and pushes and pulls on the bell crank arm which in turn pulls on the choke cables that are connected to the carbs.

Simple HTML,

For your picture I went to BrixPix and found your picture. I right clicked on the picture to open just the image in another window. Copied that the web address and added the following code in my message.

<img src="https://www.brickboard.com/GALLERY/images/13034.jpg">

For a different picture, just insert the web address in between the 2 quote marks.

For example:

<img src="Put your pictures web address here">

This doesn't always work with thumbnails and certain web address, but it works for most publicly available web pictures.

Number 4 is the choke on the 58 444 from the picture Eric is showing and my guess is that it would be the same for the 445. That is also the same on my 58 444. Larry

So #4 is where my light switch is located.. that's why I'm disoriented as to where the choke lever would attach under the dash. I posted a picture to BrickPix. Need to figure out the best way to attach pictures to my threads

I have found that Youtube videos are are a good source of "visual information" in situations like this. You may have to watch several (and use the pause button) to see the exact areas you're looking for.

Google images too.

I found a picture from an owners manual, but I didn't find the legend.

Maybe its not the original choke cable? Which engine and carbs are in your 445?

Pictures would be helpful.

The original choke cable mounts in the dash to left of the steering column next to the headlight switch which is also cable operated if original.

My recently acquired '58 Duett has Hatachi Carbs, but, has a pretty slick method to actuate both carbs. Maybe this can work on the European SU's as well.

That is a great way to control both carb chokes with a single cable
