fuse panel replacement? 700 1987

Told a guy I have worked on a lot of old Volvos. He has an 87 760 GLE that had a broken tail light lens and water got in and apparently melted a fuse in the panel. Wants to swap the panel from an 87 740 parts car that he has. 1) Differences between the 2? 2) How difficult is this? Would it be better to get a fuse holder and hook up the wires from the melted fuse rather than re-connect an entire panel? At least one brake light doesn't work so it needs to be fixed. Thanks.

We did the separate fuse holder after a meltdown at one fuse, this repair never had a problem in my '84 760. Not pretty, but better than replacing the panel and out of sight. Regards, Ken
