Before I start applying leverage force to my crankshaft pulley or either of the cam or distributor (intermediate) gears will someone please confirm there are no opposite threaded bolts in there. That standard tightening and loosening rules apply ... that lefty lucy - counter clockwise is to loosen and ... righty tighty - clockwise is to tighten.

    Correct. Usually a 1/2 impact makes short work of the crank bolt.

      hi adirondack- have been up there many times . floated in lake george- man is that water cold even in august. so lefty lucy and righty tighty is the rule on the 240 timing gears. actually quite rare to find reverse thread nuts and bolts today. maybe on some older automobile wheel studs. one question rondack- what is your preferred way to hold the crank shaft when you bump loosen the crank bolt with a 1/2 inch impact wrench? thanks tons oldduke

        No need, the crank doesn't rotate and the bolt zips right out. Though these days I do generally use the counterhold tool when reinstalling. Before I had the tool, I reinstalled with the impact and had no issues.

        The bolts that hold the ring gear in Volvo DANA differentials is left hand thread. Speedshops carry those bolts. -- Dave

          And the nut holding the impeller on the aux condenser fan. (Speed shops would probably care less about that.)

      No matter how much study I do in advance, I seemed to get caught on some detail.

      re: crank shaft pulley bolt
      Having a manual I put it in 4th gear, chock the rear wheels and use a breaker bar.
