Intermittent 1-3-1 Code 200

Hi Folks,

I'm getting a CEL light once in awhile when I start the car. Checking the OBD on socket #2 I get 1-3-1.

FAQ says "Ignition system RPM signal missing on starting".

The car seems to run fine even with the CEL and 1-3-1 code. It clears with pulling fuse #6. The CEL pops up about every 5-7 times I start the car.

The CPS is new and I hit the socket with DeOxit.

What am I missing? A short somewhere?

Thanks for any input.

Bert

Did you replace the CPS with the exact OE plug-n-play sensor?

Yep. OEM CPS and checked what wiring I could track down...

Could be your battery is weak, and if you next say it is new, then perhaps your battery cables.

But new doesn't necessarily mean good. I had a similar event occur that took me a while to sort. The new "OE" Bougicord sensor, replaced because the old one had a cracked cable sheath still in cosmetic stage, proved to be the culprit.

          Good suggestion Art.
My battery is about 7 years old... Probably time for a new one instead of waiting for it to fail.

And I'll bet your cables are getting old too.

Anyway, I have a battery analyzer which looks at the internal resistance of the starting battery (cost about half what a battery costs) but some places selling batteries can do a load test for you. That was one way I found my HF meter agreed exactly with the results my daughter got taking hers to the Interstate dealer.
