1983 refused to start after intake manifold removed & replaced. 200

Greetings guys and gals,
Decided to replace my oil separator box.
Removed the intake manifold including all its wirings and the three sensors underneath were all removed and cleaned up.
Upon completion of the project the car started right up after fuel reached the injectors. Her idle ran a little high. I turned her off.
A few minutes later upon 2nd start she refused to start again.
Temperature was in the 90's so I came inside.
6 hours later I went out and she started on first try, but then she immediately died. Refused to start again.

Could the Ignition and fuel injection Temperature sensor/wiring be causing this?
She seems to be having symptoms similar to a knock sensor issue on later models. I don't believe she has a knock sensor (1983).

Any and all advice is appreciated.

The thirty-year-old engine coolant temp sensor may have crumbled when you bumped the wiring next to the oil separator.

Hi Art ~ isn't that particular plug for the fuel injection and ignition temperature sensor?
I plugged that one in after I had installed the intake manifold. But now that I remember, when I looked into the plug I only saw one female metal prong, the sensor has two male prongs. Maybe my plug needs to be looked at.
Thanks for jogging my memory.
I'll be working on her this afternoon.
Thanks again.

Yes, if you had the connector off and on more than once, the pin could have pushed back. It is only for the fuel system in your car, and yes it needs both pins to function. The symptom would be flooding, but it would start well if you took it to Antarctica this time of year. Not so in New Mexico. :(

YAHOO!!!!
The fuel injection temp. sensor plug was the issue. One of the prongs had pushed back onto the plug.
I did the fix and
CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG is on the road again.
Now to see if the new oil separator box fixed my oil leak.

Thank you, Thank you again.

Joesph,

You should check the grounds for the injectors and fuel computer. They are black wires with ring terminals. Make sure they are attached and that the injectors have 12V with the ignition on.

Hi Goatman,
I will clean and reattach those two grounds and also check the ground wire from valve cover to firewall.

Is the fuel computer ground that third ground on manifold?

I will update tomorrow pm.

Thanks

It’s been a while since I’ve worked on the LH 2.0.

There should be grounds for both the fuel computer and the ignition computer. You can always probe these at their respective ends on the main connector.

BTW, don’t pull out the ignition computer connector, it may lead to problems. Simply pierce the insulation with your probe and glue the hole in the insulation afterwards.
