940 Power seat not receiving enough voltage and won't operate 900

Hello All.

My 940 Wagon's driver's power seat stopped working. I have traced the problem down to low voltage reading on the power supply to the control module under the seat. I am confident this is the case because:

1) The seat controls work - I can hear the relay switches "click" in the control module when I fiddle with the side controls.
2) I read only 11.4 volts power into the control module. On my other 940, it reads 12.2.
3) The clincher: I removed and switched seats with my other 940 and the seats both work fine in 940 with the 12.2 voltage but not with the 11.4.

Question is:

1) What is degrading the voltage and where can I start looking?
2) Is there some jury rig by-pass I can employ to boost the voltage?

Thanks!

Andy

Dear aconn7,

Hope you're well. The connector for the seat control module's wiring harness is located at the front of the door-side seat track. There's a plastic cover, secured by a T20 screw. Remove that screw and the cover, which has lugs that engage slots on the threshhold strip.

The seat wiring harness connector is under the carpet. Use your fingers to find the connector. It is gray plastic. Pull gently on it. There's just enough slack to get it above the carpet.

Your seat switch suggests that the seat harness connector's contacts might be corroded.

Using an aerosol corrosion-dissolver (e.g., Dexoit) on both connectors. See if that restores full power to the module. If so, coat the connectors contacts with di-electric grease. The grease will exclude humidity and so inhibit corrosion formation.

Another possibility is that the wires to that connector - which connect to a larger harness behind the side-panel of the center console beside the driver's footwell - could have been damaged. This is not likely, unless someone did work in that area, and inadvertently damaged a wire.

Hope this helps.

With every warm best wish, I remain,

Yours faithfully,

Spook

Sorry for the long delay ... Dexoit fixed it!

Thanks Steve and Spook for the awesome help!

Thank you. Although I can see no corrosion, what you say makes sense. This my my beach mobile and it definitely gets exposed to salt and salt water!

I hunted for Deoxit or a substitute on Saturday and gave up. I'll order off Amazon, try it out and let you know.

Thanks!

You have thought of tracing voltage through all the connectors back to the power bus? BTW, the connectors to the seat module are subject to corrosion from water and salt dropped on the driver's carpet by your shoes. If so, try DeOxIt spray on the connectors followed by silicone dielectric grease to protect them.

Steve - thank you very much for the reply!

I'm pretty clueless about tracing to the power bus. Where is the power bus located? Will I have to tear apart the dash?
