You can fit 6.5" speaker into the front doors of your 1996 Volvo 960?
Seriously? That's gotta be nice, considering how the factory audio in the 900s is so good. Yet with new speakers and a head unit ... !
And you can use the factory power ans speaker wire harnesses? Do they provide wire harness adapters? The Volvo factory stereo harnesses are so way more beefy than what the after market provides for wiring.
You used the fit feature on the Crutchfield (https://www.crutchfield.com/) site or another auto audio fit feature on another site?
So, I'll guess you have the same size 6.5" speakers on the rear doors?
Is your 1996 960 a sedan or wagon? So, if a sedan, the rear hat shelf?
Remote amp? Just wondering.
Two Sony powered head units in the 240 sedans and one pioneer in the 240 wagon. 4" speakers in the front doors that sound well. The 91 sedan has the same speaker in the rear doors, replacing the factory mounts. The 1992 sedan came with holes in the rear hat shelf, and they have 5.25" alpine 2-way speakers.
The 1990 wagon has a Pioneer head unit. I kept the HT-204 front door mounts and and secured some brand of 5.25 speaker in there, yet the factory Volvo dynaudio speakers have strangely positioned securing tabs on the speaker basket that do not match up with real world car audio. The prior owner that installed the Pioneer powered head unit did an awful job. Yet I found a set of the C-pillar Volvo 245 "Volvo Sound" 4" speaker on the triangular shaped vinyl over fiber board thing. I mean to pull a 89-90+ power and speaker wire harness out of another 240 and try again.
Else, nothing at spectacular as your plans are. Fitting stereo pieces into Volvo 240 sucks. The the acoustics, like the 960 interior, are quite good, once you get it all to fit. Though you install task, I imagine, is way easier.
cheers and thanks,
Duffed.
