Rodents crave undercoating 200 1991

Underbody of a 240 after it sits in our barn for a few months. Rodents (squirrel, rat, ...?) crave the minerals? And/or use it for nesting; or some kind of dark forest ritual ...?

    Rodents crave undercoating 200 1991

Go to Kness.com - they sell all sorts of traps - their snap-E mouse trap is a winner. It is twice as fast as the old wooden traps and the large plate gets them from all directions - even the rear.

I have caught about 25 mice with them.

I even have one in each of the cars that we drive. I caught one mouse this way.

My daughter has caught over 100 in her barn in MN - plus two weasels.

Weasels: Least weasels? Shame, they eat mice.

My daughter is a wildlife biologist who works for the Minnesota DNR - she is in charge of about the top third of the state for non-game animals.

If the weasels stayed out of her barn and did not eat goat food, she would not trap them by accident.

I only mentioned weasels to show that those traps are pretty strong.

      Rodents crave undercoating - 200 1991

Thanks for the tip, I'll check them out.

We have decent success with the plastic traps. The older-style wood-metal jobs seem most effective but we can't use them in the open because we have cats and they're hard on cat feet.

I made one I saw on the internet: you drill 2 holes near the top of a 5 gallon pail and run a rod through. On the rod you put a small pill bottle that's drilled through the bottom and cap so it spins freely. Add ~2" water to the pail.

You bait the bottle; the mouse runs out but can't balance on the bottle; falls in and drowns.

It doesn't catch many but it's safe for cats.

I also build kestrel boxes and we have a pair now for the 3rd year. But they eat mostly voles.

Dark forest ritual. For some reason rodents like rubbery or plastic materials.

I've heard scented dryer sheets will help. Edit: Got some feral cats here if you want them!!

We have cats, some ex-feral; and some feral around. They learn as teenagers that voles are plentiful and easy prey. Whereas larger rodents fight back.

We also have red fox, coyotes, hawks, owls, falcons.

(Dryer sheets are also supposed to work for midges, gnats, sand flies, mosquitoes, other insects. I don't know of any successes with this method.)
