Fuel Pump 444-544

First let me say I've really enjoyed reading all of the posts the last couple of years. I've learned many things and have also had several "been there, done that".Now my question: thinking that my fuel pump is on it's last legs, I'd like some opinions on a rebuild kit vs. after market new or even electric. The 1959 was converted to 12v so if electric it would need to be 12v. Thanks for anyone's thoughts.

What makes you think that it is on its last legs?

The offer in the other post sounds pretty good - If I suspected my pump, or had a bit more room (right now my porch is half full of parts ((due to a broken elbow!)) i would try to purchase it myself!

I think the factory mechanical pumps to be VERY reliable.
If you can find a repair kit, that would be my first choice.

If you have to go with an electric pump, make sure you provide the SU carbs (if equipped) with no more than 2.5 psi or so.
Me? I'd avoid an electric pump for a stock engine.

      Fuel Pump 444-544

I done a lot of research on a quiet electric fuel pump and finally decided to go with a carter 4030 electric pump. After all the work was done to properly mount and plumb the thing, I had it off and returned to summit racing. The pump that was supposed to be quiet sounded like a chain saw. The wire connectors were probably made by Tonka Toy, and mounting isolators made no difference in sound. Maybe a Facet style fuel pump would be a little quieter but I think I would try to rebuild the original pump. Ebay around 43.00 bucks for a rebuild kit sold by duett is the way I would go if the pump is reparable. Hope this helps. Larry

Rebuilding an old pump is not easy in my opinion.I recently bought a new Swedish aftermarket unit for around $60.00 and then found my problem was a clogged fuel line. If you go that route, you can have it for half price.
        Pete.

Thanks everyone for your input, the pump seemed like it was struggling but embarrassing to say, it was actually running out of gas. I'm still going to rebuild the existing AC pump and was wondering why some thought it a difficult thing to do. I haven't taken one apart in many, many years but don't recall having any significant issues when I did. Also would anyone know where I can obtain SU linkage that attaches to the back carb shaft and runs through the firewall and attaches to pedal rod.
