Tail light problem 900 1992

Drivers side tail light (Upper left, 5w bulb US number 67), stopped working, unless I gave the assembly a light tap. Once lit, it would remain lit. Took the bulb out, cleaned it and the socket. No difference. Then it stopped working all together. I measured the voltage and there was none coming to this bulb. I unplugged the connector and there was no power on it either, just for this tail light. All other voltages were fine. Also, passenger side works fine all the time.
Where is the power source that feed the connector plug specifically the tail light side. I need to trace this backwards. Things are never easy...

    Tail light problem 900 1992

Another possibility is corrosion - in our '88 745 GLE we had a headlight that would not light, but I measured 12 volts at the plug.

This did not make sense, so I began stripping the wire back from the plug - one foot back along the wire I found a pocket of black gunk and only 1 strand of copper wire. One strand was enough to show voltage, but not enough to light the bulb.

I replaced the wiring with wires from a junkyard back to the firewall.

The idea of making a loop sounds good, or, you may have to break into the insulation every few feet to find the problem.

Adding a new feed at the rear of your car might be a reasonable temporary (or permanent) solution.

As a temporary solution I just ran a wire from the passenger side tail light wire
to the driver's side wire. It works for now...Next week end I'll troubleshoot.
Of course burnt bulb indicator is now not happy. But at least I know why.
      Thanks everyone.
