A/C just doesn't move any air 200 1990

I have had my car since it was new and the ac has never been amazing. But it seems that there is just no air speed/volume enough to cool. Why is that? Are 240s blower motors just too small? On setting 1 you cannot even tell it's blowing. On 4 it is very noisy but can't feel it on your face hardly. Is mine off somewhat?

Seriously???

Mine blows rather well, even before I replaced the motor.

Have you checked your vents? Maybe they are full of leaves, or better yet, are not working correctly to direct the air where you want it.

Check to see that all your diaphragms are moving correctly under the dash, and look for any blockage in the duct work or where the outside vent is located. I cleaned out a ton of leaves in my 91' and know I will get more once I pull the unit completely out to repair a few things. My 89' wasn't as bad, but I still pulled a fair amount of leaves out of it.

Good luck.

Matt

I will check the vents for sure. I have never cleaned out anything. I will have to look that up. Thanks.

Oh really!

You need to start at the very back of the center console. When the rear flap, located down low at the hump, is open you might see that it's the perfect dog hair catcher let alone a dumping grounds for leaves. Finned coils.

What did you ever decide was a good operating temperature for your car? Appears you are thinking a lot about hot and cold lately. (:) getting prepared for climate change swings, eh?

Well, every now and then I get inspired to help out the old Volvo. I thought about why I don't drive it all of the time and it really is that the AC just doesn't cool good enough. So I started messing around and one thing leads to another. I cleaned up wiring mistakes from when I was younger and cleaned and reattached the grounds. I installed a couple of new relays for the lights that were dodgy. I then filled up the last spot on my 52mm gauge slots and added a water temp just to see how the car was doing. I have a tach, bar, vacuum, volt, outside temp and now water temp. It was nice to see the other day via the gauge that I had a vacuum leak all of a sudden. I checked and a vacuum tee had split. So, if I can master the ac issue, I can drive the car from May to October where it usually sits and goes out every now and then.

Functioning properly, the factory A/C in my 82 was always marginal. When I did the most recent engine swap, I put in Classic Auto Air aftermarket HVAC. Wow -- so nice to have A/C that doesn't have to work hard to keep the car cold.

You should include a link to your post showing the impressive retrofit. I suppose I could as well, but I was just thinking how 15 years have managed to slip by since I owned anything to drive other than a 240 Volvo, and how it has been 20 years since I've needed to rent a car. Being a passenger in a newer car once or twice a year isn't enough for me to make comparisons.

Really?! I have been researching on options for years. I will have to check it out.
