Turn signal switch 444-544 1965

Somewhere in the dim and distant past I recall advice on how to set up the turn signal switch. Despite my best efforts and a search of the archives, I can't seem to get mine to cancell after making a left turn. Can anyone help?

I was able to address and solve that same issue on my '60 by just spraying WD-40 into the steering column by the switch.

This is not intended to start a discussion on the merits of WD-40, it's just what worked to fix mine.

Thanks for the tip. I sprayed a couple of short squirts into the turn signal lever on my 65 544 and it works great. It had never canceled properly before. Tom

Tom; It's tough to argue with success, but if it works, it works...I just wonder how long it will keep working, because WD is mostly solvent and leaves little behind...

Pebee; I expect the cancelling mechanism is at least similar to the 122...and in that case, the cancelling levers which extend out from the switch, need to be activated by the cancelling collar to reset switch... the semi-precision mechanism clearly needs to be free and lubed...you can try freeing up with a spray-in solvent like WD, but if that's all it takes, I recommend a more long-term lube (like white grease) after that.

Hi,

I was also able to cure this fault in my 91 240 by spraying in some lube. It's been 5 years, and the problem hasn't returned.

I used Fluid Film, a semi grease/oil that's dielectric, safe for plastic and paint, very penetrating, and doesn't dry out. Available at any auto parts store.

Peter

Thanks for your post. The switch is a used unit I installed at the rebuild a couple of years ago, after testing and and lubing it.
