1995 940 a/c water leak on floor 900

In the summer, when I run the A/C, I find water on the passengers floor (maybe a quart!) Right now I happen to be replacing my heater core so....

any ideas on what I should do to also solve the A/C leak problem since my dash will be apart? Is there supposed to be a water collection area that gets plugged up or something?

Thanks

    Dear Horatio,

Hope you're well Yes! There is a drain line from the drain pan at bottom of the evaporator housing. The drain line exits through the firewall, on the passnger side of the engine.

Water - that condenses on the evaporator - collects in the drain pan and via the drain line, exits the car. That drain line likely is blocked.

If heater core removal does not require moving the evaporator - and I don't think it does - you can clear the evaporator's drain line by using a piece of soft steel (or copper) wire.

Bend the tip of the wire so that it forms a loop about 1/4" in diameter. Compress the sides of the loop with a pliers, so that the short end of the wire is parallel with the long length. The rounded end of the wire prevents punching a hole in the drain line.

While slowly turning the wire, push it gently up the drain line's exit. The exit is in the engine bay, below the air conditioning accumulator, the aluminum "can" mounted next to the passenger strut tower.

The drain line is only a couple of inches long. When the wire won't go in any further, slowly withdraw the wire, while turning it. If the wire "hangs up", push it in 1/4" and wiggle the wire, will pulling gently on it. That should free it.

After doing this, I think the drainage problem will not recur.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook
