Distributor spring/clip 900

Volvo 940 '94 regina. Clip that holds in place distributor cap broke. I have ordered new one from the stealership (mucho dinero). My question is: how does it go into the distributor? Do I press it in or slide it off?
Anybody?

Thanks

Distributor spring/clip 900

Dear Robert,

Hope you're well. Based on the parts diagram in Volvo VADIS, the three spring steel clips - that secure the distributor cap to the distributor's body - are pressed into place on the distributor base and cap. Thus, the clips don't "go into the distributor" but rather are completely external to the distributor body and cap.

At the top of the clip, there's a tab that is longer than that at the other end of the clip. I'd place the bottom tab into the circumferential slot and press the top of the clip onto the distributor cap. I'd guess that a fair amount of pressure is needed.

Don't grumble too much about this. The more common head-mounted distributor is harder to access, as there's little clearance between the the cap and the firewall.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
