965 Rear Defrost Relay Location. 900

The rear window and mirror defrosters have quit working on my 1995 965, and I think it is the relay, part number 9148300, however I can't locate where the relay is on the car.
I have looked under the dash, under the hood, adjacent to the fuse boxes, but with no luck.
I have scoured old posts, the FAQs and the internet. I find all kinds of vendors selling it for that year and model, but no description of where it is. Does anyone know where it is?

    Dear hanacaptain,

Hope you're well. Yes. Volvo VADIS - the superseded dealer parts/service database - contains a diagram that shows the in the 1995 960, the heated rear window relay is part of a relay cluster mounted behind the center console's passenger footwell side panel. This relay cluster includes the cruise control module and the central locking relay.

As I do not own/operate a 960, I don't know if there's an access hatch in the footwell side panel, or whether the entire panel must be removed to gain access to these relays.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook

Thanks Spook. I looked under that panel. There are a couple relays, but the rear window defrost relay isn't one of them.

        Dear hanacaptain,

Hope you're well. The relay cluster, to which I referred, has two sides: the "outer" side holds: (a) intermittent wiper relay; (b) seatbelt reminder relay and (c) driver's door relay. The "inner" side holds: (a) the cruise control module; (b) central locking relay; (c) the alarm relay; and (d) the heated rear window relay.

According to the parts diagram, the relay cluster is held in a bracket, with a release "tab" at the lower end (closest to the passenger seats). I'd guess that pulling or gently prying the tab will allow the relay cluster to be disengaged from the mounting bracket and so pulled towards the passenger footwell.

In the Volvo Pocket data booklet - Cars (700, 850, 900) 1991-1996, p. 94, the relay cluster's location is specified as "tunnel". The above-mentioned relays are listed as being mounted as I set forth.

        Hope this helps.

        Yours faithfully,

        Spook

Thanks Spook. You came through as you always do. That was exactly the case. I could not see the relays that were on the inner side of the cluster. I was able to remove the radio and access it from that side. Thanks so much for your help.
          John
