Tank fuel pump relay

Has anyone got a diagram or know the position of the tank pump relay for a 1991 b230k 740 with the pierburg 2b7 carb ,many thanks steve uk

    I'm researching your question for the prior few days. Hoping someone else would provide answer.

    You may be asking the wrong forum, as brickboard.com is primarily a North American spec Volvo forum, yet not always.

    Perhaps try the Volvo forum in the UK to ask. Many articles appear using google search:

    The 240s and 740s fitted with carburettor in the UK spec market came with mechanical fuel pump up to 1989 as the Pro Parts Sweden catalogue displays here:

    On PDF page 20, there is no mention of an electrical fuel for B230K with carb.

    I cannot get better specification that that, from the arm chair, here in the Middle of West in the lunatic, if insane, USA. (What an embarrassment.)

    Carburettor requires far less pressure than does fuel injection. With electric pump, it may use a simple single throw relay, versus the fuel injection relay, if equipped, on your 1992 240.

    The civilized and peacemaking nation of Canada did allow carburettor-equipped Volvo automobiles through the 1980s. Unsure if the 1990s. I'd not seen any recently, so some feeble memory is at work here.

    So, I'll speculate that you have the following configuration:
    - A single in tank pump (like USA normally aspired 700 series with Bendix Rex / Regina engine control)
    - An intank lift, or pre-pump, or transfer pump that maintains a primary main fuel pump like Bosch fuel control.

    The latter seems sort of silly as carburettor does not need high fuel pressure.

    Though you do indicate an electric fuel pump, requiring a relay, and you believe the relay is at fault?

    At any rate, without access to good UK market spec information, and I can lead you to some analogous information for U.S. spec Volvo 740s that may guide you to the fuel pump. Speculative in that the form factor design may not vary much as to fuse and relay placement in 740. As you have the Bosch EZK 118 with the in-distributor Hall-Effect impulse sensor pickup, I'll guess you have the fuel pump relay in one of two places depending on where Volvo put the ghastly combined relay / fuse platform, usually in front (behind the) center console ashtray or to the right of the center console (unlikely), yet am unsure on your UK market spec 1991 Volvo 740 Estate.

    Item E shows a fuel injection relay like the 87 740 diagram.

    Yet has a fuel pump relay, item M.

    About as good as it gets from this arm chair research and analysis.

    If you find Volvo numbers on the relays, you can search for them using different search engines. Google is a fascist trope the EU has discovered for some time now, so maybe some UK- or Euro-based search engines will better help you. Merely enter the name Volvo and the printed part number.
