240 Sedan 200 1993

Hello all, want to bring back to life my 240 brick. It has been sitting for two years. What are the recommendations to get it running again. The last time it ran, wife was driving it and it cut off on her.

Option 2 is remove the intank sending unit, look inside of tank. Check for rust, condition of pump, condition of small hose attached to pump, these do go bad. Replace it anyway. Then test main pump as stated before. I would not be surprised if the car just started after a fully charged battery and some gas in the tank. I purchased an 81 262c with 27000 original miles that sat for almost 12 years. That took a little more work and few more parts to get it running and driving. K-jet you know.

Thank you, I will do exactly what you recommended. I hope it starts with no issues.

Indeed, chudar's last post with regard to his 1993 240 maintenance was FPR replacement in May of 2013.

No post asking or making mention of it cutting out while your wife was motoring about in it. Recall the check engine dash light on or other faulty behaviors?

I'm wholly certain, had you asked then chudar, we could have helped you to get it running again before parking it. Quite a Volvo stable you keep? You did not sell your 1999 V70 and now have a 1998?

If your 1993 240 was cutting out while your wife was driving it, very likely the problem will remain a factor as you resurrect your 1993 240. May want to look at the electrics using your trusty multimeter. Fuse box, grounds, relays, wire harness connectors to sensors and devices, and so forth.

As you verify the engine turns and the cylinder walls are not hosted in rust, how old is / was the timing belt? Check tension?

Have you run it at all since you parked it? Poured a bunch of fuel stabilizer into the tank before parking it? Plug in a fully charged battery to circulate the fuel pumps pumps every so often (without the engine on).

Yup. Follow the advice you have here. Though more resurrection guidance may be on the way! =^)

          Sure Happy its Friday.

Maybe some fuel system cleaner too, like Techron or better?

Run the pumps to circulate the newer fuel, also? (Which maybe solvent enough should any varnish or other old fuel deposits form since parking it. How long? I dunno. Five-10 minutes?

Before you do anything remove the spark plugs and turn the engine by hand. You want to make sure it isn't seized, which I doubt. Then you can drain the tank, put fresh gas, disconnect the output of the fuel pump and test that the pump works. If it works connect the output back. Then just change oil and filter, spark plugs and see if it will start.New fuel filter would be nice. Also cap, rotor maybe spark plug wires. Stage Zero stuff. Me , fresh gas, test both pumps before the fuel gets to the injectors and light it up. If it starts /runs then go from there.

I would also add an ounce or so of oil to each cylinder before you turn it over. The first time you crank it over with the starter remove coil wire t get oil pumping through the engine. It wouldn't hurt to change the oil and filter before you crank it over with the starter.
