failed air handler vacuum bellows 900

I have both a 1997 V90 and 960 and both have had the vacuum bellows in the air handling system fail. Considering that these parts are guarenteed to fail in older cars that these parts are no longer available is most frustrating. Does anyone know of a substitute part that can be modified and used? OEM part# 9463040, 9463041 & 9463042.

I'm also looking for a NLA fan blower motor for this application. Part#30676870

hello stephen,
i did a search back months ago looking for replacements. this site comes close to what vacuum actuators we need.

http://stores.ebay.com/Old-Air-Products/VACUUM-ACTUATORS-/_i.html?_fsub=946422014&_nkw=72+chevy

i installed one a few years back and it's not easy, but you need the right tool and when taking off the nut inside the box, be sure to have a towel or something to catch it if it drops.

the faq has installation instructions for the 940 series, but i think it's similar to your 960.

I installed a Volvo actuator, not one for another car. 900

Dear studebiker,

Hope you're well. An on-line parts database does not show that these bellows are "no longer available". As no database can be 100% accurate, I'd call a Volvo dealer's parts department and ask if these parts truly no longer are to be had.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook

In the last year I tried to order the volvo bellows and even after ordering and paying for them on line-they were not available.

Here is what my son did to fix.

Part # HAC-18_1967 Vacuum actuator with stud- metal
You need 2 of these-need minor modifications. They mount the same and the housing is metal. vacuum nipple is smaller. I cut the nipples off my old ones and glued to the smaller metal nipple so the vacuum hose would attach.
You have to cut off a small stud also.

gm part number 1996686-you need one-looks the same as Volvos but mounts differently. You just have to modify the original mounting point.

My son did alot of research and found these. They are not exact replacements, but can be made to work.

You should be able to google the part numbers and see pictures.

My son used these on my wife's car within the last year and they work great.

Dear jimo,

Hope you're well. This is invaluable, both as to the parts and the needed modifications!!!

Is part #HAC-18_1967 a GM part? I ask, because the number's format is very different from that of a GM part (# 1996686), to which you referred. This GM partnumber shows-up on GM dealer sites. By contrast, HAC-18_1967 shows up only on one site.

Thank you for this excellent guidance.

Yours faithfully,

Spook

Spook,

Sorry for the late reply. This was ordered from Classic Parts USA. But I am not sure if it is a GM part.

Great piece of research, Jimo. Price is a lot better than the original Volvo also. It would be great if we could get this into the FAQ.
