Dear jd620,
Hope you're well. You need Volvo Service Manual #TP8202201: "Body Fittings, Exterior". It covers sunroofs and moonroofs, e.g., how to adjust motors, etc.
Unfortunately, it is "out of print" at www.volvotechinfo.com .
The 1995 940 wiring diagram (Preliminary edition) shows a wiring diagram for a Sunroof, but does not show any microswitch. The microswitch does not appear in Volvo VADIS diagrams, a now-obsolete dealer parts/maintenance database.
I reasonably infer that the microswitch is part of the sunroof motor (Part #6846664, about $630 from a Volvo dealer). This motor should be available at a salvage yard, as it was used in the '95 940, the '95-97 960s (inclusive), and in the '97-98 S/V90s.
I suspect that the former owner - assuming (possibly correctly) that the motor had failed - simply sealed the moonroof.
A replacement motor - properly adjusted - should put things to rights. I'd get a serviceable replacement motor from a salvage yard, and then open the in-service motor, to see if there's a microswitch and, if so, whether it can be replaced.
Hope this helps.
Yours faithfully,
Spook
