960 timing belt 900

Has anyone had a new timing belt that seems to have a thick spot in it.
You can watch as it goes over the cam pulleys and see it appear to have a bump or
thick spot. You can hear it sound like a thump also. It is a continental belt.

    Dear bhouston,

Hope you're well. As a broken timing belt on a 960 (six-cylinder) engine results in major damage as valves strike pistons, I'd get rid of a timing belt that seemed even slightly questionable.

While the one you describe may be fine, there's absolutely no reason to take any chances. Get rid of it and replace it with a Volvo brand unit. The part is #9135553. The cost - at a dealer - is likely to be about $65. That is a pittance compared with the cost of valve or engine replacement.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook
