Fuel filter / fuel line size & source -940 900 1994

I was recently hit with an intense gas smell from my 94 940 sedan.

I found a leak on the front side (towards engine) of the fuel filter. It was a pretty solid drip of fuel coming off the connection point at the front of the filter.

I knew the filter needed replacing and have the parts if I can get it off successfully. I may have aggravated the situation by dosing the area a few times w/ pbblaster in preparation for the filter change. I've read some discouraging stories about doing this procedure.

I do not have the filter to pump connector line and am hoping I can use the old one (and that this is not the cause of the leak). This part (from Volvo) is a bit pricy and haven't found an aftermarket part available. Does this part give out on old, weathered 940s?

While under the car I noticed the fuel lines from the pump back to the tank (2 small sections) looked pretty beat up and the clips were very rusted and some were broken. No leaks though. I am guessing this is not uncommon. Any idea where I can get fuel line & what size it should be?

Thanks! I am a huge fan of the board!

It is best to take the entire fuel pump/filter assembly off the car and do the work on a bench. It is not hard to do, and only requires removing a few bolts, a hose clamp and (1) banjo fitting. Make sure that you hold both sides of the fitting joint when you are removing or re-installing the "Banjo bolts".
The filter will have a hex configuration on it's end for a wrench, and the banjo bolt is a hex head bolt (19mm I believe if I remember correctly).

As to the leak, you probably just need to change the filter and the copper washer seals where the banjo bolts bolt onto the filter.
Holding the filter and the fitting stationary is importandt so that you don't kink the hard plastic gas line..If you kink it, it could be a big problem.

    Hope this helps

If you have the undercar main pump, the short fuel line is as noted broadly available from FCPEuro and others.
