Headliner 444-544

I am about to replace the cloth headliner in my 444. If anyone has ever done this and has any tips/advice, they would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

The headliner I have does not have a seem sewn into the back or a looning spring. It has a black plastic strip sewn onto the liner. My 544 vinyl liner had something like that for the rear window, but I do not see how this works with the 444. At first I thought it was the wrong headliner, but it's not. Got it from Scandcar

It sure sounds like you have a 544 headliner. Did you confirm with the vendor? I' ve only ever seen the plastic strip on the 544 liners, and always found the sleeved end on the 444. Granted, I haven't seen dozens of them...

I watched the video, and it was definitely helpful. It looks like he started at the rear window ? I am doing a 444 and I am not sure how the fabric attaches tightly around the rear window. There doesn't seem like there is anything for it to grab onto ?

There's a sleeve sewn into the aft end of the headliner. The loonnng spring fits into that, and once secured, holds the rear of the headliner in place, snug to the rear window.

I made a temporary headliner (canvas) for my 544 just to see if I could do it, before I spend the money on the good stuff. I removed the old one carefully, & cut the seams apart where it was sewn together. I cut the canvas pieces the same size & shape, & sewed them all together, then added the tubes for the bows to slide through. Mark a center-line on the upper side to help keep it centered while installing. I used a stiff putty-knife with the corners rounded off to push the edges up behind the retainer strips. I was pleased with the results & won't be afraid to make the next one. It's not really difficult, just takes time & patience. Doing it on a cool day helps too. I'm going to make one for my 122 in the near future. I watched the video several times which really helped.

I installed a new headliner about two months ago. I used this youtube video to help me. It is all in Swedish but it made it much simpler.

the headliner is a fairly straightforward fix I would try and get the fabric centered as best I could and try to leave as much as you can for the rear window as I see many were this is short and a tuff area to get clean, the video is good good luck
