no cold start. spark yes fuel no 200 1990

help! 240 was sitting for a year. got it to run and idle with jumper cables, starter fluid, and pumping the gas. so i put in a new battery, and now no cold start. with starter fluid it will spark, turn over, and run 1 second. I can't keep it going because when i open the throttle there's no longer a "squirt squirt" sound from the injectors (which i DID hear when it ran last week). fuel pump does run when i bridge fuses 4 and 6. pulled the hose off the FPR and it seems like fuel pressure is zero. no gas dripped out or fumes. unplugged AMM, that didn't help. just refueled too, about 2 gallons. also tried jumper cables but no dice.

the problem was a disconnected fuel hose near the gas tank. had to take off the rear left wheel to see it.

      Interesting, very interesting.

Was it Disconnected like in, done by human hands and not a rodent?

There are three hoses around in that area. Two are for raw fuel, a Supply and a Return.
Did you smell gasoline coming from the in-tank pump operation or from the emissions evaporative canister hose.

There is an inspection or access cover directly over the tank. Did you use it to make the repair and could you tell it was used before?

There is a place in the manuals where it is suggested to check for an obstruction in the return line from the FPR.
I haven't heard that anyone does any more than blow some air through it from the engine compartment end.
If the tank gurgles and air comes out the filler pipe, I call it good.

I'm a little puzzled to Why or What made you go looking behind a wheel but it worked.

The next time I have that wheel off I will have to check it out. In my mind, I aways thought the wheel well pan blocked the ends of the hump and any access from that direction.

Thanks for the insight. No pun intended.

      Phil

Phil, I wondered the same, but thought it adequate to close the thread. I certainly wouldn't have guessed that, would you?

A resolution with few words, in my book, has always been an avoidance of public confession. If blame is available, words seem to flow like the Patapsco through Ellicott City.

I followed this a bit because I recall the Classified posting of the car for parts, wondering why it could not be saved; that it is rather close to my location. First guess was the tank was emptied via the tank pump prior to offering the parts for sale. The rodents disconnected the electrical wiring from my wagon's tank a few years ago, but to me that was not only worth many words, but photos too!

Fuel pump relay. It's down at the passenger footwell. when you turn the key to the final position before hitting the starter you will hear it click. Do you hear it click? I'm pretty sure that's what you're jumpering at the fuse panel.

the in-take pump ins't critical from what I've read but if the car was sitting around a long while then maybe the gas in there went bad and soured your fuel filter or even the injectors/lines.

check throttle electrical contacts, including grounds for every part of the fuel system. also inspect the idle air control valve, it could be faulty and that' why car dies when you take foot off of pedal.

    Hi

Just thought I would give you a "two cent" tour inside my head. Notice I said give, cause, its the going rate! (:)

First of all there is no pumping the gas on a fuel injected engine. No can with tiny leaking holes along the air passage called a carburetor.

I think since the car did sit and you have scared the fuse panel by jumping the pumps!
You might want to revisit the fuse panel. Clean all them puppies up all and tighten collars that hold the fuses.
One of them, maybe the no. 7, next to 4 & 6. Might be labeled injection system?

You may have lost power and that was one of the flaky spots before it got parked!

Bad battery cables and especially the little wire off the positive post, that goes to the little junction box on the fender can be another.
It might have a flaky fuse holder? It will stop the injectors.

This is a total guess on my part, but for the going rate, what do ya expect! (:-)

    Phil
