1971 164 value for insurance? Priceless, Invaluable, Irreplaceable!!!! 140-160

Well its the weekend and I pulled the front wheels to check brakes. what did I find, that the center screw for hub caps has a rubber insert. in all my years around 140 series cars I have never had one with the rubbers left.
Looking at the calipers both have been replaced and so have the flexible brake lines all Volvo parts. Dealer maintained I figure . I will go to local dealer and check it out.

The latest on this 164 is that I was afraid that the gas gage was stuck reading full.I emptied out 5 gallons of gas and gauge reads 2/3 full, so gage works fine.

A few Volvo 164 craigslist and other adverts ... 140-160

Would you have any larger images?

I could not find any other images you have on brickpix?

Some Volvo 164 model info:

https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/prof_164.shtml

Image of the interior, engine bay, under body, and such? Tires, brightwork (trim), accessories included with this 164 you have for sale such as the spare tire, tool pouch, documents like the owner and service manuals.

You can upload an image up to 1 megabyte in file length (file size). Jarrod has yet to update image file limits. Yet there is no limit on image (pixel) size.

Or, you could open a craigslist account and post a for sale there. Though here, on the brickboard.com, you get perhaps the best world wide exposure.

Please let me illustrate a few craigslist adverts featuring the venerable Volvo 164. (The answer to that ghastly, ulgy modern Volvo 90 series. Using search engine searching for Volvo 164 targeting the craigslist.org domain (and craigslist make it hard to do so).

The Volvo 164 Peking to Paris Endurance special (1974) for £55000 is pretty good. Not that I'd buy it!

A few examples I found. Probably exhausted craigslist.org for U.S. states listings of Volvo 164.

How our Uncle Art Benstein rolls with image posting!

Hope that helps.

Your original image post:

The images are dark and not telling. The paint finish appears dull. No engine bay images. No under body images. No interior detail images.

Why I posted links to the few other craigslist sale image for Volvo 164 as example where those sellers provide good detail in images and text.

Your are selling a 45-year old Volvo 164. Your 164 will need more work than the rear flex (flexible brake hoses?) lines replacement and the front exhaust resonator (or muffler).

Whether you post here, or iPd free classifieds, or Bring a Trailer, or eBay, the images you serve up must be comprehensive and as well as what condition detail you write in the advert. In as much as a Volvo 164 is rare, so are those individuals that would consider contacting you in response to your advert. You can expect to get rather harshly negotiated on price.

While I consider a Volvo 164 to be irreplaceable, this is not a 1971 Mercedes or large BMW of the time with which the Volvo 164 competed in the market place. Or Volvo P1800 E or ES.

So, for a barn-find, with 45k miles, if the ODO is accurate, your 41 year old Volvo 164 is an item that may garner some interest if the price range you consider reflected in the other adverts I post. In some marketplace instances, scarcity does not effect pricing.

More Volvo 164's for sale.

1971 Volvo 164 - $7000 (Spokane, WA)

https://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/5804335284.html

Note: This was for sale on craigslist in August 2015 for like 3k$ or 4k$ in North Central WA-state, before I returned to my Missouri state hell hole. The showed this 164 in a warehouse full of cars, stacked three high on racks. That ad indicated the rotten tires and a host of other issues the next owner would tend to. In typical Spokane fashion, here some the scam. Why we call it Skam-kane. Forbes magazine has several articles about Spokane, the Fraud Capitol of N. America. Penny stocks trading boards and the Cowels family and their BS.

"Up for sale is a 1971 Volvo 1971, a 6 cylinder engine, 4 speed manual transmission, gold color, all original body, runs and drives, she's a beauty. I am the second owner, bought it last August, the original owner was a pilot, the vehicle has always been garaged till this summer, well maintained. As the weather begins to change, I need to find a home for her, she needs a cozy dry garage and a loving owner that won't let her go to waste, at the current situation I am not at liberty to provide that to her. I'll part with her for $7000, however shoot me an offer, a good dry heated garage is more important to her then my asking price."

Fancy wire wheels, though.

WA-state, unlike, say, MO-state, cares not about vehicle condition. Daily driver plate.

Nice velour!

Window crank?

See the rotten tires. Don't wanna motor far on the rotten and criminal and evil roads of Spokane. Roads so rotten, you think you were in St. Louis, MO.

Duck Duck Go seems to find craigslist sales better than Gogole or Bing? Nothing on eBay.

That stated, I hope a everyone enjoys a fair price on a 164. Seller and buyer.

cheers,

MacDuffy's Bastard Tavern.

Kitty--it's great that you post images--but please reduce the file size--trying to read your text is like trying to follow a typewriter carriage back and forth.
As for your topic matter -- you're spot on. When I photograph a car for sale I take enough time to re-position it so the subject side is always facing the sun. Interiors are the hardest to get right. Good images are a big help in getting responses. -- Dave

Hiya Dave,

The img src reference links to the original image pixel (not necessarily file) size, be it on brick pix or craigslist.

Though, yeah, there is some added html after the image file quote so the web browser limits image width. Sorry about that.

It is ovlov Guy's image of his 1971 164 for sale. So, next time, I'll use the image size thingy on it so the image remains within the width of the message frame.

BrickPix allows image files up to one megabyte, even though the BrickPix instructions limit you to a image pixel size, now, so, about no limit to image size, with reduced quality, like jpeg compression.

I like that light blue 1969, though the engine is rusty! Some naval jelly or POR-15? A freeze plug may leak, perhaps.

There was the earlier 164 thread that had George Downs' 164 for sale in OK-state. I think he had the head off it to install hardened valve seats and new valve guide seals (or guides?)

That golden 164 in Spokane ... I saw that on the Spokane (corrupt kan or criminal can, as everyone is a criminal and they kan) craigslist. I saw that and fell off my chair.

Nothing more Volvo to me than the 164, and following on the 140-series, the Amazons, and a PVs, specifically Duett!

For the love of 164. Yet seven 240s with three rotting away.

I'll see about limiting image width when needed next time. Else, I was outa control. All hopped up on earl grey tea goodness then, trying to get a word box going to write some tech doc when I get to do so again.

Thank you,

Amerikan Cheese Duffed.

Yes on pictures... what do you mean by 'dead' paint? That white usually buffs out very easily...

I'd be hesitant to sell a 45k mile white on red 4 speed 164 for 10K. It is, to me, about the most desirable 164 anyone could be lucky enough to have.

Thanks to everyone for responding. I am starting to get a good idea on what a gem I may have gotten. This weekend I plan on pulling the P1800 out of the garage and putting the 16 in for a good going over of the bakes and fluid changes.
Thanks again

If you have to supply photos when getting the agreed value insurance, remember it's all about looks. If the paint is dead and can't be revived by buffing you are stuck with a good sound car let down by bad paint. That will seriously affect the valuation. Depending on how they are taken a false shine might be easier to achieve than if you have to have a personal appraisal done by an agent of the insurance company. If you bought it for next to nothing, trying for a false, high value will likely only raise your premium. Resale value is what the market says, not a valuation on a piece of paper.

Not sure how it works in UK Derek, but stateside, there are commonly used "stated value" or "agreed upon value" insurance products available from a number of different insurance companies for vintage cars. You simply TELL the insurance company how much coverage you want in the event of a total loss (wreck, car stolen, garage burns, etc.) and that's what they pay. They price their product in accordance with how much coverage you bought. For a little more than a couple hundred dollars a year, I've got $15,000US coverage on my 82 242 through Hagerty. There are limitations on how the car can be used, annual mileage, how it's stored, etc.

To the OP - pricing on this type of insurance is pretty reasonable. I'd put $10k on it -- that'll give you some room to 'grow' if that becomes necessary.
