940 Upper trim moulding windshiled 900

Hi there,

I need to change the upper trim moulding of my windshield, but unfortunately it is a discontinued part.

The P/N is 6848469 - I found a kit in Europe (Skandix) which includes both upper and side rubbers, but you need approx $200.00 shipped here and that does not make much sense to me, as even without shipping the price is a rip off anyhow.

In the US, the few sites that show to hold the part in stock have discovered they have not, I tried them all.

It does not look like there isn't any aftermarket available, so I am not sure how to proceed.

I posted this on other Volvo forums but without much luck in terms of somebody who has already experienced this issue.

Any help is appreciated!

Alex

    940 trim found today 900

Went to the Pull A Part in Birmingham today..was fortunate.

The had a 960 with excellent trim pieces, and a number of excellent clips. Less than 10$ for all three pieces.

Perfect fit for the 940 and I understand pretty much any 700/900 series will interchange.

Good for you man, good for you...

I wish I would live close to any of their locations, but I am in the middle of nowhere :(

Apparently the guys at voluparts have one in good condition, I am waiting for their final offer with P&P.

    Alex,

May I ask why you need to change the trim?

Windshield replacement or changing the trim with windshield in place?

I ask because my mom's 94 940 has the upper windshield trim pulling out on each side from exposure to sun.

    Thanks.

940 Upper trim moulding windshiled 900

      Hi,

Changing the trim with windshield in place.

My car went thru different climates from different countries, from torrid summers with highs of 110F to freezing winters of -22F.
As a result, the trim, after almost 20 years begins to rust and bend, I cannot blame him!

      Hope this answers your question.

      Alex

        Thanks for the response.

I was mainly curious if the trim could be swapped with glass in place. Would love to hear how this plays out for you.

Bummer that the part is unavailable new. That's the way it's going to be as time marches on...

        Bert

940 Upper trim moulding question 900

The wife is having the windshield replaced today on her 940.

Is this trim made of plastic ..breaking easily. Looks like metal with a covering of sorts.

Never took any off. Just know that hers is old ...hoping it can be re-used.

        Thanks..

940 Upper trim moulding question 900

          Hi Andrew,

The trim has a core metal part in it and the rest is rubber.
It is very easy to remove and if it is in good condition than certainly they will re-use it.

The glass companies generally ask the dealer if they need a new part, in this case, they would not be able to find it as the part is discontinued.

Please keep us informed on how it ended up!

          Alex
