960 Door Pockets, Question 900

After many years of used, the door pocket in the driver side finally come loose or broke its clips. I am looking for some guidance before I removed the door panel and just used some plastic epoxy to glue everything.

My intent is to remove the panel and fixed the peeling plastic or just make it look better. I also want to lubricate the window mechanism with white grease.

I might also look at buying some new speakers to replace the current ones.

Thanks for the help!

    960 Door Pockets, Question 900

    Howdy,

I have a 1997 965, and I have removed the door panels, Do this with the window up so you can get to the innards.

    OK if IIRC:

    1. Remove the trim around the interior door handle.
    2. Remove to cover in the door handle kinda square looking.
    3. Remove the two screws made visible by Step two.
    4. Remove the electric control there are many plugs, but they will only fit one way.
    5. Remove the three clips on the bottom of the door, kinda hidden use a hooh like tool, they pull straight down.
    6. Pull out and up, it should be free.
    7. The door open light on the back of the panel, speaker wires.
    8. Don't forget the speaker wires on reassembly.

I hope this is in some way helpful.
    Fred

    960 Door Pockets, Question 900

    Dear hf63,

Hopoe you're well. What is your car's model year? In 1995 and later 960s, the door panel format was changed. In 1994 and earlier 960s, the door panels and door pockets interchange with those used in 940s.

If I recall correctly, the 940 door pcokets - and door pockets in 960s up to and including the 1994 models - are secured to the door panels with screws, so are easily changed.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook

      960 Door Pockets, Question 900

      Hola Spook,

The car is a 97 year and not similar to the earlier years.
Once I remove the door panel what other items will you do regarding basic maintenance.

I just broke the last remote, do you know a good source for this item??

        960 Door Pockets, Question 900

        Dear hf63,

Hope you're well. I don't own/operate 960s and have only been inside the doors to remove a white plastic block, used to trigger the in-seat side-impact airbag. I swapped into 940s, seats from post-1996 V90s, so needed the plastic blocks.

Between the door panel and the steel frame, there's a plastic foam liner, that I presume deadens sound. You'll need carefully to detach the liner, to be able to access: (a) the window lift mechanism (the drive gears as well as the sliders at the bottom of the window) and (b) the door lock/latch mechanism. These are the only two units inside the door that require lubrication.

As to remotes, I'd guess a salvage yard should have them. I don't know anything about re-programming these remotes, so it will work with your car. I hope one of the Board's bonafide 960 experts can advise on that.

        Hope this helps.

        Yours faithfully,

        Spook
