Yes the 700 steel wheels are a great budget upgrade for a 240, and the 81-85 DL center covers will work but the 14" beauty rings will not for obvious reasons.
At 15 x 6 x 25et they are only 5mm different offset.
The best size tire is a commonly available 195-65-15 @ 24.98" Ø which is an excellent size wheel for these cars.

These Sumitomos are cheap and good tires for the money.

Uncles joe and Redwood Chair,
Thank you. These are free wheels. No need for the beauty rings. Though should look swell. If they are straight and true and round.
I'll look up the tires. Yet wants teh Michelins. Tired of used junky tires. Yet I'll look up the tires you suggest here.
Yet what local tires store will be all, "Oh, okay, you bought your own tires? You imagine we'll mount them?" I'll ask around.
So, at 195-65-15 @ 24.98" Ø, the same diameter as a 185-70-14? Cause gots no 15" spare.
Very nice images Uncle joe!
Thank you.

If you decide to buy Michelins, consider spending just a couple of bucks more and buy the Michelin Premier A/S tires instead of the Defender. I have the Premier A/S 195/65-15" on my 2002 Passat wagon. They are the best all-round tire I have ever owned! Quiet, good ride, handle well, good grip in rain, even snow (for an all-season tire). There was a recent post about the Defender's here. Not everyone liked them. Check out the reviews on Tirerack.com about the Premier's. They are fabouloso!!
On another point - Your 240 with 15" wheels and 195/65 tires should ride and handle better than stock size wheels and tires. My only reservation is going from the alloy Corona's to the steel wheels. Normally, alloys being lighter handle better than steel wheels. Since you are moving up to a larger wheel that might not be the case here...

Well, alloys are fine, if new.
These are later Coronas for 240, with the alignment pin hole. Like all 240 alloy wheels, unless properly restored using modern finish, they are corroded, and the right rear is bent, So they suck, are awful, and worse.
The rear wheel with that is bent now has a warped rotor under it. The vibration cause on deceleration.
The 14" Vovlo 240 steelies are no heavier than these crappy 6$ a piece corona wheels. The 14 185 65 wheels were new, yet bought privately through scam's, I mean, craig's list. In Scam Can, I mean, Krap-kane WA.
So, why I want to replace wheels and tires. I have had bad luck with tire save for the Michelin's I've had and the BF Goodrich that came on the 1990 240 DL wagon.
I'll try the Volvo 240 14" steelie wheel two piece center cap on the 1992 240 hubs. If indeed the ABS hubs say no two the center caps, boy I'll get into a shit-driven-tizzy. I hate the plastic wheels covers.
I had a set of 15" Virgos 10 years ago, yet some former violent-offending ex-con stole them from my third floor patio while I was in Vancouver in 2006. Yet those wheels would also require a full restore. Going directory to a wheel refurb shop would mean like up to 150-200$ a wheel to furb them.
With a steelie, it's as is if straight and true. You can wire wheel and paint it yourself, or for far cheaper, use that same wheel refub service. Bead blasting and a proper finish is not so pricey.
I'll consider the Kumo tires.
Yet most tire shops would be not pleased that you bring your own mail order tires to have them mount and balance.
Oh, no worries, I'll swap the old crappy corona wheels and shitty tires with the steelies and new tires.
I just hate the stupid Turbo exhaust on it. What a stupid thing on a 1992 240. I like how quiet these Volvo 240s are, normally.
I also want to return my 1991 240 sedan to normal ride height with the original stock springs. Lowering a 240, for me, is stupid.
Thank you folks,
The 1992 240 with 10,000 Vibrations, each ever more aggravating than the other.

FWIW: I run 15: steelies on my 91 245 with ABS. They work. I don't run hubcaps tho...

No doubt that Michelin are great tires, but it's my understanding that the flexible sidewalls are what contributes to the ride quality, and decreased rolling resistance, so I don't know what he was going on about saying they rode stiff, as that has not been my experience with them.
In fact I'm running some Michelin X [costco house brand Michelins] in 197-70-14 @36psi on the front now and they're quite compliant especially compared to the 185R14 Michelin Agilis' Vanagon tires I have on the back.

Yea I was gonna recommend Michelin Defenders, but that's real money for most old Volvo drivers to put out, even though they last a long time, and probably aren't any more mile driven per dollar spent.
Also I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I doubt those caps will snap on the front of an ABS 240.

Redwood Chair has point about the abs hub and the hubcaps. They rely on a groove recess machined into the hub for the clips to grip. If the abs hubs have the groove the hubcaps should work. -- Dave

Just a +1 on the small hubcaps fitting the abs hubs. Here is my 92 (I don't like plastic, either)
