too expensive to buy new, find a good used clean one

removal if careful begins at the back of the wagon after unbolting all in the way objects and take 30-50 minutes and is done only on a day above 65F

it is awkward so be careful

all the metal stays are removed by pulling them downward until one side is removable. remove outer edges until each stay is exposed and then remove stay from wagon roof not from headliner

installation took less then 10 minutes and was amazingly easy

the first thing to do is install the front most stay

also mark with colored pen position of each stay on the roof both side for accurate reinstall

then slide headliner into front windshield area and work back

install is many times easier than removal

The prices on these are that bad huh?

It comes down to if you have to ask, you either cannot afford it or you really don't want to know.

I'm finding surprises on my sister-in-laws Aprilla 50cc motor scooter. 2,500 miles on it and won't keep running.
If one priced the parts first before buying, they couldn't sell them. Luckily she bought it used with half the miles on it.
Can you believe these little bikes sell in the $3000 range new and it takes $500-$1000 to get one repaired in the shops today!

Hang on to your repairable Volvos!
Both fuel pumps "new" are about the same price. The Aprilia's, $264.16, looks to be a single double acting piston pump providing 25-45psi.
It may get the Bosch 240 FPR & pump system, if it turns out to be that funky pump.
A fuel injector is 133.57 and an air injector under it is a $182.56.
Remember it is a 50cc cylinder! No diabolical engineering going on here. Pricing yes!

I will be on the look out for them headliners, trust me!

Thanks Phil

Holy smokes!
That's a chunk of dough for a few yards of vinyl and thread all right!

If it cost anywhere near that from the factories, the car company would go broke right out the gate!

You used lacquer thinner on it. You are one brave soul! That's pretty hot stuff!

Doesn't have fabric on the back side, in like, a bonded product?
I would be afraid it would chaff or dry out the vinyl's plastizers.
Did you put something back on like a protectant?

How did you know it would work evenly from a small, quote "test area?"
I'm impressed!

How did you apply and remove that stuff evenly? Am I over thinking this?

Phil

hi,
try searching ebay germany. those are usually good, clean, low-mileage cars.

see if you can find someone selling parts off of a wagon; shipping from germany is high, but that's where I got my spare headliner. i need to keep it because i have 2 wagons.

i believe the volvo part number is 698992 (86-93, maybe for earlier models, too) and are still available, i think.

regards,
byron golden

What does something like that go for, from the dealer or elsewhere, minus labor to install of course?

Phil

hi trich- how much work is involved to remove the shot headliner and install the new one in a 245 wagon? mine in the 92 is good and intact and original but is getting kind of dry and crunchy. may have to replace it soon in this fla heat and sun. figure it to be a a1-2 F job on the 5 F scale. what say you? thanks tons oldduke
