what are the options these days for aftermarket rocker panels? i'm seeing some here and there on-line but its indicating the same part from basically 1967 142 through 1993 240. can that be right??

I got one from "fix my rust" for $27.55. I don't know about the other years, but I can confirm that it fit my 1992 just fine.

was this a full on replacement panel or just a cover??

Can you comment on the metal gauge versus the original?

Thanks,

definitely not a cap, it was the whole replacement panel. I did not measure the gauge, but it was thinner than the original-of course the original is very beefy. It was fine for me, as I just needed an 18" patch panel for each side where all the leaves and stuff that go down the cowl vent end up. I was able to flange the openings, and pre-treat the patch panels before bonding them in place with auto body epoxy. Then I sprayed the interior of both cavities with an anti rust product from Eastwood that comes with a special nozzle on a tube through the rocker panel trim holes. I have no idea how that will work, but have fingers crossed.

Good deal! FWIW I've confirmed the gauge, with the supplier, of the $29 replacement panels: 18Ga = .05"

are they universal for sedan and wagon?

thanks for the confirmation!

I found them here:

$29 seems to good to be true.

My body guy will replace the rockers, prime and paint with chip guard paint for $500. seems like a good deal.

I saw the "fix my rust" site, but drivers side is out of stock.

Yes because it is. Beware that these cheap rockers are often sold just as covers and are just welded over the top of the old rusty ones. Thickness likely about half that of decent quality ones which might run $110 or so.

http://212.247.61.152/us/main.aspx?page=article&artno=679652 They have a repro at about $48 for the left hand side but the expensive ones may well have the Volvo label on them, so OEM. Your choice but if you're paying $500 for the job your bodyman will, I'm sure, prefer to be welding the more expensive ones.

thanks for the heads up. if going in for $500 in labor probably makes sense to get the good stuff.
