Auxiliary Air Valve test 200

Greetings, apologies if this has been covered before, but I'm testing my Auxiliary Air Valve on '79 B21 K-jet. The valve should open when I apply 12VDC to the terminals on top, correct?

As of now, when I apply 12VDC to the terminals, the valve doesn't open, or close, or do anything for that matter. I've tried + and - on each terminal just to be sure I got it right. The valve sliding plate is not jammed up, I can slide it with a screwdriver.

Reading 40 ohm across the terminals.

Thanks!!!

Incorrect. At cold temps the valve is open. At warm temps the valve is closed. So for cold weather starts the 12v heats the bi-metal spring which gradually closes the valve. This can take several minutes. At some point engine temp serves to keep the valve closed.

Thank you for the replies. This Aux Air Valve (AAV) is barely open, maybe 1/8 inch in a 50 degree room. I suppose I didn't consider that 1/8 inch = open. I'll freeze it down and hook up 12v to see what happens (more closed than 1/8 inch I hope). I also did not realize that the effect was slow once power is applied.

I have downloaded the greenbooks and am coming up to speed.

Thank you again!
-Mike
