Random No Start/Dead Battery 200 1990

Hi all,

I've had this issue on/off for the last 3-4 weeks or so - seemingly random dead battery happening. I live in Buffalo, NY and the battery is only a year old. Had a dead battery a few mornings in a row, jumped it, drove to work, started up fine at the end of the day, came home. Next morning, dead again. Took the battery in to get it checked/replaced if necessary, it checked out fine, just needed to be charged.

Car drives fine once its jumped, FYI. After a week of this, I got a new Bosch voltage regulator - the old one didn't seem particularly worn, but it looked a little sketchy (rebuilt?) and figured it would be a simple/cheap fix. That seemed to solve the issue for a couple days, then dead again! And the pattern is more spread out now - it'll be fine for several days, and then I'll need to jump it. Surprisingly, it started right up Sunday morning after sitting for 2 days in -13 weather! Today at lunch (22 degrees, positively balmy) I went out to my car and it wouldn't start.

So: I'm thinking there has to be a short or a bad ground or connection that is causing this, right? I've looked around here, but just need some guidance about where to look.

Thanks,
Walter
