Dear Blindboy,
Hope you're well. The '94 and '95 940 shifters have longer wiring harnesses - and have a larger connector - than does the '93 940 shifter. I suspect that on the later two models, two smaller harnessses were combined.
On the '93 940, the shifter's harnesses connect at the lower right corner of the fuseblock. On the '94 and '95 940s, the longer harness suggests the connection point is on one side of the footwells. I'm not sure which one.
In short, I do not think the shifters will interchange smoothly.
All this said, I don't think you need to change the entire shifter. The part you need to change is the Neutral Safety Switch (Part #3544184). This is mounted on the driver's side of the shifter box (North American models). Changing this switch requires removing the shifter from the car. I just did this job. The guidance in the FAQs was not very helpful, because different shifter formats were covered in a single treatment, without sufficiently clear separations.
If you decide to replace the switch, so post and I'll write-up the procedure for doing this on a '93 940.
Hope this helps.
Yours faithfully,
Spook
