Harness melt down 200 1980

My 1980(One owner) with 400K has finally bit the dust. Harness melt down, not unusual for this era. It is a diesel conversion, with the Canadian B21A. The body is in excellent shape, probably an 8 (out of 10). I would probably need both engine harness and ignition harness(underdash) I seriously doubt that this would be cost effective. Any ideas out there??

If it involves a carbed B21A, there's no need for a harness. You can run your own wires following whatever route you choose.

You could even get rid of the grey connector completely and hook up the wires directly to those exiting the passenger compartment.

Just to clarify for the OP. This work takes no particular skill. What is required is a thoroughly methodical and maniacal attention to detail. Patience is way more important in this instance than anything else.

On the plus side, with a carb car, you basically have 25% less wires and only three (I think) where having exactly the right resistance (or lower) is crucial...the dizzy wiring.

Is this a conversion from or to a diesel? Details please. Diesels need very few wires.

Since he indicated it was "to the B21A" and mentioned the ignition harness being toast as well, I made the assumption it was from diesel to carb B21A. That said, can't hurt to ask.

Hopefully I have a prospect who is interested in a project. Thanks to all of you guys for your input. If I were 10 years younger, I would tackle it myself. FYI it is a B21A engine. I converted from a diesel at about 125K miles.A very simple, efficient engine, and still a great driving car. Thanks again for your input.

It looks harder than it is. You only have to do a few wires with easy to apply connectors. Can be done in under an hour easily. One wire at a time from grey plug to destination.

    Harness melt down 200 1980

My first 262c was a 1980. The harness started to fall apart. The only part I kept was a small section that went into the large grey plug at the firewall inside the engine compartment. At the time I did not have the funds for a new one. And didn't know about Brickboard or Turbobricks to source parts. So off to the auto parts store I went and purchased automotive wire in all of the right colors. Carefully removed the old harness, made notes of what wire went where and made a new one. Took a few hours and the car was back on the road. This may be an option for you. Note all the wire colors were the correct colors for each location. If it was green originally that is what that connector got. I also could not find, locally, yellow wire with blue tracer. This was solved by using yellow wire and running it over a permanent blue ink marker. Problem solved. Good luck, you can do it!

Tracer wire trick will work for any color combo you need.
