240 armrest cross-reference 200

Hello,
Hoping someone can help me to identify what years/models have a driver-side door mounted armrest that is compatible with my 1979 Volvo 242DL? My current armrest is black and needs to be replaced. Will an armrest from any other year/model fit this 242?

THANKS!

It may depend on what type window winders you have. I think the '79 has electric window switches mounted in the center "tower" -- in which case the armrest is the same manual or electric -- so any armrest from any manual window model will work. But if yours has the switches in the armrest - any late model with electric switches will work. I'm not absolutely sure if the armrest is different 2 door/4 door. If they are different - Volvo last made the 242 in 1985. -- Dave

Thanks for the info, I forgot to mention that the car has manual windows.

Models earlier than '79 may not suffice. The 240 armrests were originally like those in the 140.

I'm guessing '79 was the first year for the "new" armrest because a lot of changes were made for that model year.

At any rate, as previously mentioned, any armrest for manual crank windows from '79 or later should work. The ones in my '84 were identical to those in my '79 and my current '80.

You shouldn't have too much trouble finding one considering your location.

The 242 is my favorite 240 model. They didn't make enough of them.
