Front brake disks available for 122's anywhere? 120-130

Hi,

I am thinking about buying a 122. It's a 1967 Amazon.

Before I do, I want to make sure that I can source parts to make it a safe daily driver.

I have been unable to find brake disks anywhere online.

How do people handle this? Is there a way to retrofit the front with something if the old ones are unavailable?

And for that matter, is there a way to get a dual-reservoir master cylinder happening on these cars?

thanks,

Thaddeus

Although pricey, new rotors are available.

And there are several ways to convert to a dual circuit master cylinder.

I see the parts are there on your site. Excellent.
Do you know which dual reservoir master cylinder would most easily bolt up?

I am now finding other threads with the "how's" of the thing, so I guess I'm just looking for the parts people recommend.

Thanks!

Changing to dual circuit brakes is non-trivial. 120-130

You need different front calipers, with 2 chambers each. IDK what rotors, hubs, knuckles go with that. A search here should show some answers.

IMO the car already has dual circuit brakes: one hydraulic circuit to all 4 wheels, one mechanical circuit with a cable to the rears only.

Not interested in dual circuit. Dual reservoir is adequate.

FINDING Reasonabe 122 Calipers is also non-trivial. 120-130

These 122 Calipers are getting scarce and pricey. There was a thread on a reputable rebuilder a while back. The 68 calipers are more like the multi-piston 240 and 164 fronts I believe

Has any one come up with a way to adapt the later and more available Volvo calipers to the 122 spindles? A plate to bolt one to the other w/ proper off-set should work. Planet Man...your thoughts? It would certainly be less expensive to use modern parts/pieces.

Changing to dual circuit brakes also requires an MC adapter. 120-130

Thadeus;

The MC mounting to firewall, for 122 Master cylinder (both single and dual hydraulic system), has bolt holes at 12 and 6 o'clock, but OE 122 dual sys MCs are no longer available because they were only produced and used a very short time...so typically when converting a 122 to dual hydr sys, MC from 140 must be used, and these have holes at 3 and 9 o'clock. Installing this MC therefore requires an adapter between MC and firewall...I don't know if these are still available and from where (but wouldn't be too difficult to machine)...actuation rod from pedal obviously needs to be extended by thickness of this adapter plate...

Eric; ...do I have this right, and can you supply further details?

Cheers

Excellent info!

I can machine a plate "if the needful".
