Put my headliner in a 65 544 a few weeks ago.
you should have two wires about 6 inches long that attach to the roof support just above the rear window and hook on the rear bow after the headliner is slid on. The wires keep the bows upright when you pull forward on the headliner. Pull forward to remove wrinkles and attach at windshield. Then the sides. Around the rear window is a real bear. My headliner came with the sewn on plastic strip, but I think I'm going to have to glue it in place.
    Good luck, Tom

My '62 didn't have the 2 wires, but did have 2 metal clips holding the material to the metal lip above the rear window. Also had the plastic strip sewn along the rear edge. I made a new strip out of a bleach jug, which seemed to work fine.

I recently sewed a temporary headliner for my '62, just to see if I could do it. I've made some seat upholstery before but had never made a headliner. I used a piece of cheap canvas, but will use the correct vinyl when I make the real one. I've seen a good video on Youtube showing how its done, but it is in Dutch or German but after watching it a couple of times its not too hard to figure out. Take a small scrap of vinyl, fold it, and poke the ends of the bows thru it to keep them from rotating. At the moment I can't remember the title of the video, but I have it written down some where, & will post it later.
