I never could find the coolant drain on the side of the block on my 740, as described in the FAQ. I just disconnect the bottom rad hose.

If you have a red block engine, there is for sure a block drain on the right side of the engine, near the rear of the block and under the exhaust pipe.

It is brass and looks kind of like a spark plug.

All you need to do is loosen it. If nothing comes out when you do, it is probably clogged. At that point, insert a piece of wire or a small screw driver to clean it out. If you screw it all of the way out, be prepared to lose all of your coolant because you will most likely be unable to get the plug screwed back in with the coolant gushing out.

You'll find the bracket that holds the kickdown cable near the throttle "drum". The cable conduit end is threaded and has a nut on each side of the bracket. If you loosen the nuts (use two 13mm open end wrenches) and move the threaded end away from the drum the cable will tighten and make the kickdown happen more readily. Turning the nuts so the threaded end moves toward the drum will loosen the cable making the kickdown less responsive.
You should manually operate the cable to make sure it isn't binding and perhaps it's time to do a fluid change.
The drain petcock is located on the passenger side (LHD cars) near where the block gets wide to accommodate the flywheel and about halfway between the bottom and top of the block. I attach a hose to the nipple so the coolant drains into a pan rather than splashing onto the exhaust and then dribbling onto the ground.-- Dave

Hi,

Regarding binding kick-down cable try oiling it first. I would undo the cable from its throttle attachment, hang it up to the hood by a string and drip some ATF down its inside. Work the cable again and it should be free.
