Repairing an external mirror 1800

Hello, I have a '72 1800es and the mirror on the drivers door broke were the two parts are joined together by an internal spring. It would seem that on the mirror part there is a 'finger' that holds the end of the spring from the part mounted on the door. does anyone know if there is a 'fix' to this problem shy of replacing the entire mirror. Thanks JC

Unfortunately since the mirror is a pot metal casting, no repair to the arm will likely hold that very stiff spring.

You might try jbwelding it in place, but I'd carve some purchase points so it doesn't depend just on surface adhesion.
