Rear Side Door Compatibility Between Years 200 1992

Hello Friends,
My darling 240 was recently backed into by a neighbor. Fortunately the damage was contained to the driver side rear door. The body shop estimator called out a door replacement. I'm thinking I can handle this myself. The question I have is what year 240s can I pull a rear door from that will be compatible with the interior panel and power window regulator?
Thank you!

The body style changed in 1986...so on up from there

I would not swear by it but I seem to remember the rear doors (outer skin, structure, etc) did not change the entire production run for 244/245. Again, fuzzy memory, but I think they may have even been the same in the 144/145.

All that said, the 1987 model year and up are guaranteed to be galvanized and have all the appropriate mounting holes (though again, pretty sure 1978+ had all the holes but window scraper style changed) for the "modern" conveniences and door card style. Keep in mind that exterior trim detail DID change.

One difference would be the added "dampening" ? don't know what else to call it, weather stripping around the door where it seals against the body. The earlier ones has a single run around the door.

That's correct for the 240/260 series and partially correct for the 140/160 series.
1973 is when Volvo last used the removable extruded aluminum window frame by welding the steel frames to the body and eliminating the front vent window for 1974. I've been giving some thought to installing 240 doors on my 1969 144S - the vent window has never stayed glued securely so I have it clamped shut--and the original exterior mirror is small, fragile and difficult to adjust.
The original poster should bide his time and find a door of the color he needs. A used door of the same color will have at least some natural fade while to make it look right a paint shop would have to do a "shade-in" painting the front door, part of the front fender and into the rear quarter. If his car has power windows a replacement door from an earlier model may have different connectors - not really a problem. -- Dave

Thanks! If I find something that has power/electric windows, will it be plug and play...other than the painting?

When I was searching for a door, 85 740. Just called the dealer parts department for what would exchange.
