Re-fitting a 240 sill mould 200 1992

Hi BrickBoard!

I just had our 240 fully re-sprayed after some dodgy insurance work 20-ish years ago. The inferior paint used by the Volvo approved body shop went matte after a few years and the lifetime warranty advertised by our insurer (no name mentioned) evaporated when needed. Anyway, this is not a whine but a call for assistance.

The right side sill mould needs re-fitting as only two clips were left holding it after a lengthy sojourn in this panel shop. I have bought the requisite 13 new clips but see no way of fitting them. There is a protruding bit on each clip that won’t allow them to go anywhere near the mould. There is a great pic at http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/body/body-parts/trim-parts/trim-moulding/clip-body-trim/1027188/. The Volvo original part number is 1304520. The problem part of the clip is the bottom leg of the plus sign the clip resembles (if you squint ;-).

Does anyone have any experience using these clips? Do I need to trim this portion of the clip? I’d seriously appreciate any advice before I re-visit the panel shop.

Thanks in advance.

"The problem part of the clip is the bottom leg of the plus sign the clip resembles"
I haven't applied them, but have removed them by knocking the shaft (vertical part of "plus sign") into the panel with a punch. That is, the shaft SLIDES in/out of the clip. The new shafts may be stuck in place so appear to be a one piece "plus sign".

So you don't cut the bottom "leg" of the plus sign. Just push it in. Place the clip over the hole and tap the shaft lightly with a hammer until it is flush with the horizontal part. Then, I presume, you snap the trim on.

edit: Looks like Nel61 responded a few minutes earlier, while I was working on the answer.

Cheers for posting anyway, TREV29. Your effort is also much appreciated. Still love the BrickBoard!
Incidentally, I bought our first 244 in 1978!! from my brother who now lives in Toronto. I blame him for our life-long, generational addiction to the marque in spite of equally long struggles with factory representation and dealer servicing DownUnder (no names mentioned);-)

STOP! Don't trim any of the clips. Fit the fatter circular part of the clip into the body hole. Then tap in the center pin to secure it.When installing the trim you will need to angle it slightly them smack it firmly in place clip section by section. Hard to explain but when you start it will become clear. If the clips aren't going in the hole it could be that the hole has too much paint in it. You can carefully ream out some of the paint without chipping the paint. Good luck!

Many thanks for saving the day, NEL621. So obvious once explained. I would never have guessed. BrickBoard to the rescue once again.
