1991 240 distributor

When I am at my volvo dealership, there parts break down of my distributor shows I have a pick up coil and a hall effect sensor. When I look at my distributor , I have no primary control wires going to it at all, and I have no pick up coil or hall effect sensor at all. I only have basically a shaft , rotor and cap. The guy at the parts department says I have to have one or my car wont run. It looks like the only thing the distributor does on my car is to transfer high voltage to the plug wires. Has any one else noticed this on there 91 240?

"I only have basically a shaft , rotor and cap."

Yes yes. Chime in all. This parts counter is dealing in cars made this century and manned by folks educated in this century. Look for a graybeard to get the right parts diagram for you. Still a good place to buy the rotor and cap, but try to leave without getting the shaft.

I know a guy who's addicted to brake fluid, but he says he can stop any time.

1991 240 distributor - what's the problem ... ? 200 1991

Indeed, follow what pageda and porkface say ...

Yet what's your problem with your 1991 Volvo 240 that you are at the Volvo stealership for incorrect parts and misinformation?

cheers,

Monday MacDuff.

the 89-up volvo dists. have no guts, just a cap and rotor. find someone in parts who's been there awhile. btw, wasn't your car running or is there an issue? good luck, chuck.

The Hall sensor was replaced with a crank position sensor starting in 1989, the later 240's only have a rotor in the distributor.
