Swapping seats again! From 96 960 to 94 940. 900

Hi all,
I recently acquired a sub-200K 1994 940, pretty much exactly what I've been keeping a lookout for over the last three years. I now plan to swap in some very nice front seats from a 1996 960. And I have read posts here about this - thanks to all.
I guess what I am asking at this point is for any updates to previous posts. It appears the rails match (I had swapped from a 95 960 to my previous 940 (93) with problem there). It seems I would best provide sufficient juice from a 12V battery at the u-pull yard to move gthe seat forward to access the aft mounting bolts. I don't see any other way.

I've heard that the electrical connectors may differ between the 96 and the 94 940 ..
Can anyone comment on that. Both new and old seats are heated, whereas only the 94 940 driver's is powered. I understand how to bring power to the passenger seat.

Now, the side airbag issue. Spook is incredibly helpful here. Thanks! Door panels on donor vehicle have never been removed, as far as I can tell, so I anticipate block removal should go smoothly. But what about the SRS control unit? Does it do anythging electrically (monitor, etc) with the side airbags in the seats? Would the 2-airbag control module from the 940 94 model work OK with the two side bags added?

Hopefully, I'll have time tomorrow to fetch these very good seats. Color is a bit off, but the known benefits to my back of 960 seats trump anything as minor as that.

    I use the battery from a battery powered drill to move the seats. The seat motor has never objected to a 20 volt battery, and I've moved quite a few that way. There is a red plastic safety piece to clip over the seat side airbag firing mechanism. It should be visible when you take the plastic cover off, which is just in front of the seat back tilt hinge.

    Most of the self serve wrecking yards won't let you take a car battery into the yard, but there are no objections to battery powered tools.

    When you buy the seats, just cut the wires off on the chassis side of the electrical connectors. I think 96 960 to 94 940 use the same electrical connectors, but that way you'll be safe.

    I have installed 960 seats in at least four 940 series.

    Dear yenna,

    Hope you're well. Before removing front seats, be sure to disconnect the negative battery cable clamp, from the negative battery terminal. Put the negative cable clamp into a plastic bag. This isolates the cable, which ensures no power can flow to the SRS sensor. The SRS sensor is affixed to the floor pan, under the driver's seat. Wait 20 minutes before starting to remove the seat. This ensures that the SRS system is de-energized. An airbag deployment - at close quarters - can be lethal.

      For additional safety, assuming the SRS sensor cable's routing is similar to my 90 240, you should also disconnect the sensor cable prior to messing with the seat. Underneath the driver's side carpeting near the console you will find the sensor cable (240's was orange in color). There is a connector under the carpet before the cable runs under the driver's seat. Simply disconnect that as a further safety measure.

    Early 960 owner here. The 940 seats are the same as early 960 seats. I can't imagine they would have changed up the mounting points or tracks during the facelift. You will need power in order to move the seats. Be prepared to apply it directly to the connector if the car is at a boneyard with no keys, I can't remember if they move when the ignition is off.

    The interior of my 960 is out but I suspect that you'd find the electrical to look just like what your 940 has. These cars share a few more similarities than people think they do sometimes. If it would help I can grab a pic or describe the connectors, same for wire routing. BTW there's no guarantee that seat bottom heater will work unless you ohm it out first.

    Airbags... you'd have to compare part numbers for your vs. 960 controller but I doubt that they are the same. My guess is you'd need the new controller + two harnesses that would run over to the seats.

    What color are the seats you're taking out - is it that sort of peanut butter/tan color?

      "There's a hard plastic cover plate (labeled "air bag" so that subsequent owners know a bag is there) on the lower side of the seat," he said. "When the deformed door strikes a switch behind that cover, it activates a firing pin that ignites and instantly burns material in two hollow plastic tubes. The flame travels to two small "generators" (metal tubes filled with gunpowder), igniting the powder and inflating the bag. When the bag deploys, it bursts the seams on the seat so that the bag moves forward to position itself between you and the door."

      No computer required for the airbag.

    Cannot comment on the rest but the side airbag is activated with no electical stimulation or monitoring. Think of it as a firing pin and a percussion cap.
