Inner Tie Rod ends, 1989 240, more than one type? 200

I need to replace my inner tie rod ends, 1989 240 Wagon.

I know there are different types of rack and pinion units on Volvos, is there just one part number for the inner tie rod ends?

Inner Tie Rod ends, 1989 240, more than one type? 200 1989

I have to stock two types for my cars, two of which are 89 240's because the CAM/TRW racks are different from the ZF racks. Look at the pictures carefully after looking at what you are replacing.

There can also be a difference within a brand. I've seen a male end on one car and with the same brand rack (don't recall which) on another -- female threads. With the inner tie rod screwed on to the rack it is hard (impossible?) to tell what you've got. 15 years ago I bought a new tie rod (TRW brand part) but it was wrong for my car. Finally a friend had use for it recently. Keep in mind some racks require a special "lock" washer (has tabs in two directions) and they often break on removal. -- Dave
