240 fron bumper cover side guides 200

I am in the process of replacing my front bumper cover. I have everything assembled on the aluminum reinforcement and have run into trouble at the point where the guides inside the ends of the plastic cover have to slide over the flat top of the tee-shaped plastic posts that are mounted on the sides of the fenders.
Getting the cover off over those posts was easy enough...

I thought of just undoing the plastic posts from inside the fender but the 10mm head bolt in there seems to spin something in the "stem" of the plastic post. I'm afraid I am going to break something I will be sorry about.

Does anyone have a good method of engaging the slide guides inside the bumper cover with the posts on the fender as you mount up the front bumper that they could share?

If you have someone help you, then this can be done.

however, I believe the correct way is to take them off the fender and then attach them to the bumper first. This is how I've done it in the past and never have had a problem.

Well, I did get this to work using a helper and some careful bending of the plastic parts as they were slid together. I could find no way to remove those posts without breaking them, so I am feeling lucky.

BTW - How does one recover their password for this board? I can't find such a function on any of the pages here.

That is what it looks like to me. But I can't get the posts to unscrew. As I said, it feels like something is spinning inside them. Are there metal inserts inside the plastic stems? On my Minnesota car the bolts seem to be rusted fast to something that is turning even while the post is held steady.
I could resort to really tight vice grips but I'd probably destroy the plastic. I suppose I should head back to the JY and get some off one of the local West Coast cars that isn't rusted to death...

I've had this happen a few times: the bolt rusts into the metal nut insert and breaks free in the plastic.

You can wiggle the bumper off if you're careful. A second pair of hands helps.

It is easier if you can unbolt the flanges so if the JY is convenient see if you can get 2 there.
