How do I remove the hood release cable? 200 1989

Removing the last bits on a 1989 parts car before taking the remains to the recycler.

I would like to take the hood release out of the car but don't know how to get it loose at the firewall. 1989 still had the white circular pull handle.

    Stretching my memory here, but I think it has snap fingers, so you might not get it out intact.

    On second thought this is not helpful at all. I think I'm going to recommend you wait for someone who actually knows what he's talking about. :)
