The wipers on my '88 245 have been sluggish, sometimes inoperable, and always irritating for the last year. I've opened up the relay and found nothing out of order. So much for that. I've lubricated the linkage to no avail. So much for that. I've swapped out the switch with no improvement. So much for that.
Well tonight I finally got fed up. See, I live in Western North Carolina, which is a temperate rain forest, and finicky wipers won't cut the mustard here.
I removed the wiper motor for bench inspection and found the magnets had both come away from the the casing, causing all sorts of trouble, as you can imagine. A little patience, some epoxy, and a bit of determination have paid off. The wipers actually work better that I remember them ever working, and I didn't have to buy a single thing to get the results.
I love it when things work out like this!
