schrader valve? - Swapped 940 fuel rail into 90 240 200

Trying to put a 90 240 back together and in the process decided to swap out the fuel rail from a 940 with the simple idea that it looked much nicer than the original. Of coarse this is where the schrader valve issue comes in to play.

Is it possible to just not use the cold start injector and do away with it on a 90 or is that going to cause starting issues? Is there a way to add a line from the schrader valve to the cold start injector? What is my option with using this fuel rail on a 90 240? Or should I just go back to a bad looking original fuel rail? Thanks.

I don't know if this will help but Some ECUs are programmed to compensate for a missing Cold Start Injector. See reference chart https://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EngineFIComputer.htm

With my sister's '89-245, I swapped out the 561 ECU for a 951 and removed the CSI and covered the hole. And installed a fitting in the hose from the rail to allow me to attach a pressure gauge.

Best answer. Just swap in a junkyard 951 ECU. Its program uses the four service injectors for cold start enrichment.

Awsome. I've been sitting on this for a month forgetting to post. Great help and happy its going to enhance my ability to guage pressure. Thank you for all your responses.

Be sure to wear gloves. The same chemical in antifreeze that damages kidneys is also in motor oil. Be safe. (Wal-mart is the cheapest i've found for blue gloves)

i have swapped 93 and 92 240 rails into earlier 240's with no ill effect.
indeed i often make the cold start injector obsolete. imo its usefulness is greatly overrated.

if you want you can simply disconnect the harness from the valve in the intake manifold after installing your new rail.

in this part of new england even on the coldest mornings you'll experience near zero difference starting because of its detachment

May I suggest what I did on my '86 wagon very long ago!

I installed a Schrader valve and cap right into the line.

You can pick one up a refrigeration supply houses. Don't know if they sell only one but they may have a kit.

It came then in a Band-Aid looking metal box.
You drill a out a 5/32 inch hole into the tube.
it came with a silver-phosphorus ring that you placed under the valve and clamped in place in the drilled hole. Just add heat as you would any other silver soldering or brazing as it is a higher temperature and your done.

I pulled my rail to change o- rings and any bad injector caps. I didn't worry about chips as I used a gob of grease on the twist drill. I imagine you could do it right on the car.

You should be able to get the fitting in various sizes to fit what ever manifold gauge set you have.

There is no reason to change out everything just to get pressure access point.

Come to think about it, I have only used it that one time to check pump pressure or the rest pressure since I put it on there.

Guess I learned what the symptoms are for either problem.

Enjoy your project which ever way you like best.

Phil

Machine man, I think your solution would be great to try in my 83. Sounds pretty doable and would be great to have. Now if there was a way to add a guage inside the car for fuel pressure that would be something. Sure there is a way but im not there yet.
