Hood release cable easy fix 700

My hood release cable seemed to have stretched so much over the years, that it seemed to have caused the interior hood pull to have maxed out on it's range of motion. A complete pull hardly popped the two levers in the grille opening to raise the hood. Out comes the screwdriver through the grille or the coat hangar from under the car and over the cable to pop the hood (not fun either way).

Today I found an easy fix. Once you have the hood opened, remove grille. Find the hood cable running to the two pin openings, it runs right at the top of the auxliary fan. Take a small zip tie and tie the hood cable to the auxiliary fan housing. Anchor in such a way that the cable is taut and pulled downward toward the bottom of the grille opening. This removes the play the cable will normally have, and now when you pull the interior hood latch it will pop the hood open with
minimal movement in the interior pull.

Don't forget to spray silicone grease at the hood pin openings and the pins themselves (mounted to the hood).

There's an adjustment at the cable abutment under the dashboard at the hood release lever which can be used to take up slack in the cable.
